The Genpei-ike Pond is located to the south of Yabusame Archery inside the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. This area including Kamakura Bunkakan Tsurugaoka Museum provides a space for relaxing and spending time.
The Kamakura Bunkakan Tsurugaoka Museum is a cultural exchange facility which shows the history and culture of Kamakura.
The Museum Shop on the second floor of the Kamakura Bunkakan Tsurugaoka Museum sells uniquely original products you cannot buy elsewhere.
Enjoy a meal or a snack in this café adjacent to the museum.
Inside this sunny open café, a portion of a large ginkgo tree which fell in 2010 is on display.
Original products made from ginkgo are available for purchase for a limited time.
This is a modern Japanese-style tearoom managed by a famous Japanese restaurant Hikage Chaya.
Enjoy delicious snapper chazuke (rice soup) and desserts with carefully selected green tea.
This facility hosts “kenheishi”—messengers who present offerings at festivals—and important guests, including those from overseas.
This is a place where visitors can relax while viewing the Genpei-ike Pond.
This is the best place to view cherry blossoms in the springtime.
With cherry blossoms in spring and beautiful pink and white lotus flowers in summer, this is a relaxing place for many visitors.
Next to the east pond (Genji Pond), there is a sub-shrine called Hataage Benzaiten Shrine with a “Masako-ishi,” a special stone where individuals can pray for a long-lasting happy marriage.
Winter and spring peonies are planted here, and the ponds become busy with many visitors when the flowers are in bloom.
The best time to see the flowers is the time between the beginning of January and late February for winter peonies, and between April and the middle of May for spring peonies. The admission fee to the peony garden is 500 yen per adult.
If you walk along this trail, you can see the south side of the museum over Heike-ike Pond.
Enjoy the outdoors view of the seasonal trees and flowers.
